Kwantlen Polytechnic University (KPU) operates under a bicameral governance structure: the Board of Governors and the Senate. The Board of Governors is responsible for the overall management, administration and control of the university's property, revenue, business and affairs, while the Senate, among its many roles, focuses on setting criteria for awarding credentials, qualifications for admission, curriculum content for programs, criteria for academic standards and the grading system, as well as establishment, revision or discontinuance of courses and programs.
British Columbia's University Act empowers the Board of Governors to appoint the President. The President serves as KPU's Vice-Chancellor and chief executive officer. The President is a member of the Board of Governors and Senate, and leads the University Executive. The Office of the President provides institutional leadership and oversight for KPU, develops and champions the university's vision, and strategizes how the university will achieve its goals. The President reports to the Board of Governors. This report summarizes the notable updates, activities and initiatives at KPU since the previous report was submitted.
The Chancellor serves as the ceremonial head of a university, which most notably includes conferring of degrees upon graduating students. The chancellor is appointed by the Board of Governors after consultation with the senate and recommendations from stakeholders. The Chancellor holds a seat on the KPU Board of Governors and Senate.
