Hundreds of young science enthusiasts and their families descended on Kwantlen Polytechnic University’s Langley campus recently to participate in one of the largest science festivals in B.C.
Science Rendezvous, which takes science out of the lab and into the community at various events across Canada, took place at KPU on May 11. The annual three-hour event transformed the campus into a science festival of experiments, demonstrations and activities.
“Science Rendezvous is a chance for the community to visit KPU and learn how important science is, whether your career path is in science and engineering, health care, design, arts, or virtually anything else,” says Dr. Brett Favaro, Dean of KPU’s Faculty of Science. “Our hope is that seeing science in action helps people see a place for themselves in these important disciplines, and maybe even as future graduates of KPU.”
Hands-on experiments, chemistry magic shows, slime crafting and other interactive science labs were all part of the event, along with demonstrations of fire dancing and medical patient simulators. The event also offered guided tours of the state-of-the-art KPU Brew Lab.
Numerous KPU departments, from physics and horticulture to entertainment arts and design, hosted stations offering crafts, activities and demonstrations.
Science Rendezvous is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to bringing research and science experiences to the public.
