Teaching Children to Read

This course offers a look at the evidence-based strategies that help children to learn to read, often referred to as the Science of Reading.  Human brains are not made to read, rather, humans must wire their brains to read, and using evidence-based strategies allows for this wiring to occur.  This course will explore strategies to teach phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and reading comprehension, all of which are important for a child to obtain successful reading skills.  We will explore the research behind these five pillars of reading and explore hands on strategies and resources.

This course is eligible for funding through the StrongerBC future skills grant. Please check the future skills grant page for more details.
