Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) at KPU
KPU is committed to providing and maintaining a safe and healthy work and learning environment for our employees and students. KPU’s designated first aid attendants (Facilities Support Generalists) and Campus Fitness Centres are equipped with Automatic External Defibrillators or AEDs. AEDs are portable devices used to treat individuals experiencing a sudden cardiac arrest. Cardiac arrest is a failure of the heart’s electrical system causing it to stop. An AED can be used to restart the heart and potentially save a life.
In a sudden cardiac arrest emergency, time is of essence. Please CALL 9-1-1 and contact KPU First Aid immediately.

Naloxone at KPU
Naloxone is a life-saving medication used to rapidly reverse opioid overdoses. It works by blocking the effects of opioids on the brain, quickly restoring normal breathing in individuals who have overdosed on substances like heroin or prescription painkillers. Its importance lies in its ability to prevent overdose deaths, providing crucial time for emergency medical services to arrive.
Always call 9-1-1 first in the event of an emergency. Naloxone is available without a prescription and often given as an injection into an arm, buttocks, or muscle. Naloxone will only work on opioid-related overdoses, though it will not cause harm if a person hasn’t taken opioids. Naloxone should be given to an unresponsive person showing signs or symptoms of an overdose.
Naloxone is available at all KPU locations in the event of an emergency. Maps on Naloxone cabinet's locations provided below.
