THEA 11103 Credits

Theatre in Context 1

Students will study selected periods of theatre with a focus on the socio-cultural contexts. Emphasis will be placed on the theories and practices that have shaped contemporary theatre. This survey course investigates global theatrical performance traditions as well as ritual performance processes. This course will involve field trips to performances in the Lower Mainland; additional fees will apply to meet field trip expenses. This is not an acting course.

THEA 11203 Credits

Acting for Stage and Screen 1

Students are introduced to the actor’s creative process and to the basics of performance for stage and screen. Through studio and on-camera exercises, improvisations, and in-class performances, this course integrates the development of acting resources with the exploration of acting as a collaborative process. This course will involve field trips to performances in the Lower Mainland; additional fees will apply to meet field trip expenses.

THEA 11306 Credits

Theatre Performance 1

This course involves intense practical experience in theatre performance and production. Students apply theories and practices of theatre performance to the development and presentation of an extended public performance. By undertaking performance or production responsibilities, students develop theatre knowledge and skill. While students who focus on production are not required to act, those who focus on performance will be required to do some production work. Students are required to attend performances in the Lower Mainland; additional fees will apply to meet field trip expenses.

Prerequisites: Audition or interview, and permission of the Instructor

THEA 21203 Credits

Acting for Stage and Screen 2

Working with other actors in ensemble relationships, students explore the principles of creating and sustaining dramatic action by applying acting theory to the preparation and presentation of scenes for both stage and screen. This course will involve field trips to performances in the Lower Mainland; additional fees will apply to meet field trip expenses.
