Graduate Nurse Qualifying

Description
Through directed home-study, workshops, labs and clinical
practice, the Graduate Nurse Qualifying courses are designed to
meet the needs of nurses who have been educated in other
countries, and have not had sufficient educational preparation in
maternal-child, pediatric or mental health nursing to meet the
requirements of the Registered Nurses Association of British
Columbia.
Career Opportunities
These courses are designed to assist the graduate to meet basic
educational requirements for nurse registration in British Columbia.
Admission Requirements
In addition to Kwantlen's general admission requirements,
applicants must complete the following requirements before final
acceptance into the program:
- Letter from the RNABC stating the need for a qualifying course in one or more of the following areas (maternal-child, pediatric, mental health nursing).
- English language assessment (written TOEFL 550 or Computer TOEFL 213, SLEP 61, TSE 50).
- An interview with the Program Coordinator or designate may be required.
Course Requirements
Students must meet the following course requirements prior to
enrolling in either GNQU 1305, 1315, or 1325:
- CPR Level C certificate. CPR certification must remain current throughout the course.
- Immunizations consistent with the requirements of clinical agencies.
- Two criminal record searches: a general RCMP search completed within 6 months prior to enrolling in the course to meet Kwantlen University College requirements and an RNABC search under the Criminal Record Review Act to meet facility requirements in pediatric and maternal-child settings.
Content
These courses admit students at monthly intervals throughout the
year. The courses are self-paced and are completed within six
months.

GNQU 1305 Mental Health/Psychiatric Nursing Clinical
GNQU 1310 Maternal-Child Nursing
GNQU 1315 Maternal-Child Nursing Clinical
GNQU 1320 Pediatric Nursing
GNQU 1325 Pediatric Nursing Clinical
GNUR 1180 Labs and Workshops (required by all students prior to the clinical courses)
Costs
In addition to tuition and textbooks, student financial obligations
include uniforms, travel and English language testing (TSE and
TOEFL).
Graduation
Upon successful completion of this program, students will be
awarded a Certificate of Completion.
