Description
The purpose of the General Business Studies Certificate Program is to provide students with a broad range of basic business skills and an understanding of the business environment.
The one-year General Business Studies Certificate Program commences each September on the Langley, Richmond and Surrey campuses. However, students may complete the program on a part-time basis over a maximum five-year period.
The program emphasizes real world and microcomputer business applications. Students who can complete the required courses for this program can receive full credit for their work and continue their study toward a career-oriented diploma program at Kwantlen University College. Most of the courses are transferable to other universities and colleges.

Content
Students must take at least two Computer Business Systems (CBSY) courses. In addition, they must take at least one course from each of the following:
- Accounting (excluding ACCT 1130 and 1230)
- One course in Applied Communications (excluding CMNS 1110) or
- English (excluding ENGL 0099)
- Business
- Economics
- Marketing
- Mathematics (including ACCT 1130)
- Statistics (including ACCT 1230 and BUSI 2335)
- One elective from any of the above disciplines

- BC English 12 with a C+ grade or better, or equivalent.
- Math 11 with a C grade or better, or equivalent.
Description
This Diploma Program offers students the opportunity to select a variety of business courses, without a strict adherence to specific courses. Students can develop their own individualized program that meets their specialized area of study.
The two-year General Business Studies Diploma Program commences each September. However, it is possible to complete the program on a part-time basis over a longer period. Many of the courses are offered in the evening and weekends.
Content
1. Core Requirements
Students must take at least two Computer Business Systems (CBSY) courses. In addition they must take at least one course from each of the following:
- Accounting (excluding ACCT 1130 and ACCT 1230)*
- Applied Communications or English
- Business (excluding BUSI 2390)
- Economics (ECON 1101 or ECON 1150 with
ECON 1250)*- Marketing (MRKT 1199)
- Mathematics
- Statistics
*If ECON 1150 is taken, ECON 1250 will be applied to satisfy elective requirements in the program.
*ACCT 1130 is the business math course for career programs; however, any equivalent or higher course may be used to meet this requirement.
*ACCT 1230 is the business statistics courses for career programs; however, any college statistics course may be used to meet this requirement.
2. Business Studies Requirements
In addition to core requirements, Business Studies students are required to take eight additional courses from, at most, two of the following areas:
Six of these must be 2300 or 2400 level courses (ECON 1150 and all ECON 1200 level courses are acceptable as upper level courses).
3. Electives
The remaining three courses are electives. They can be selected by students either to meet prerequisite requirements, or to meet specific student needs and interests.
Transfer
Graduates are eligible for entry into the third year of Kwantlen's Bachelor of Business Administration Degree in Entrepreneurial Leadership. This diploma program transfers as a block to the Open University toward the Bachelor of Business Administration Degree.
