The Equine Studies Program has been co-developed with industry experts to ensure quality and currency. Their stamp of approval is your guarantee for training relevance.
Students will be asked to develop the focus, commitment, and discipline required of all successful entrepreneurs in the marketplace. Graduates of the Certificate Program will have rigorously prepared themselves to assume leadership roles in the equine community.
Student Profile
Students in this program represent a mixture of recent high school graduates and mature students with a variety of work experiences. Some students enter the program with post secondary training.
Previous experience with horses is not a program requirement but is, however, an asset. Students will be required to work around horses and handle them extensively during lab or practical sessions. Students possessing a strong equine-related background and/or prior experience working in and around horses will more easily relate course materials to examples taken from real-life scenarios.

Description
Citation programs deliver entry-level training and are designed for people who wish to build expertise in a very specific area of study. Students can use citation programs to upgrade job knowledge and/or develop new expertise in an equine-related area. The Equine Studies Citation Program is built around the concept of "core" courses of study, which focus the students' effort in the fundamentals of equine science. Electives can be taken to emphasize the students' area of interest. Citation areas of study include Equine Health and Nutrition, Equine Lameness and Injury, Equine Reproduction and Breeding, Equine Exercise Physiology, Psychology and Behaviour, and Facilities Management. Each citation consists of 15 credits.
Technician
Description
This Program offers effective, high quality education to those seeking a more sophisticated program of study regarding equine-related topics. Considered the only program of its kind in British Columbia, Equine Studies offers a primarily academic curriculum emphasizing the sciences, with lab work in anatomy, physiology, psychology, nutrition, and training being a significant part of the overall program. Course work will be fast-paced and rigorous in content.
The Technician Program consists of a 24 - credit required program of study, coupled with 6 credits taken from elective areas of study. The elective option enables students to specialize in equine exercise physiology, equine health and nutrition, facilities management, psychology and training, or equine reproduction and breeding. The course work is of a highly technical nature. It is not the intention of this program to prepare graduates to function in a medical capacity but to educate, enlighten, and prepare graduates to work effectively within the veterinary community on behalf of horses.
