Turfgrass IndustryStudents will gain an overview of employment potential in the turfgrass industry. They will identify areas of personal interest by visiting job sites and interviewing employers and employees in the industry. Students will also develop personal resumes.

Turfgrass Equipment OperationStudents will operate turf equipment in a safe and confident manner in order to be an effective entry-level employee in the turf industry. They will also complete the requirements for Workplace Hazardous Materials Information Systems (WHMIS) and Industrial First Aid Level 1.

Turfgrass Pesticide ApplicationStudents will learn the legally required procedures for pesticide application in preparation for the Ministry of Environment's landscape general pesticide application exam.
Prerequisites: GCTM 1000GCTM 1030 cr-2
Turfgrass Soil ScienceStudents will examine soil profiles in relationship to golf courses and turfgrass industry. They will apply theory to practical applications in sand-based profiles compared to soil amendment profiles, fertilizers, calibrations, and application methods.
Prerequisites: GCTM 1000GCTM 1040 cr-2
Turfgrass Plant PhysiologyStudents will be able to identify local turfgrass varieties and recognize the different characteristics and growth habits. In addition, students will identify plant structures and explain the photosynthesis and respiration processes of a turfgrass plant. They will identify turfgrass diseases and identify growth stages of each disease. Interviews with local golf courses will be required.
Prerequisites: GCTM 1000GCTM 1050 cr-1.5
Weeds in TurfgrassStudents will identify common weeds in turfgrass that occur in the lower mainland and identify the growth stages of each weed. They are required to write a report and collect photos from different sources. Interviews of local golf course managers will be required.

Problem SolvingStudents will improve their problem-solving and decision-making skills through the application of a variety of techniques. They will learn their personal problem-solving approach and how to apply alternative approaches to problem solving. Problems to be addressed will be supplied by the students and instructor and will relate to the turfgrass industry.

Options for Self-EmploymentStudents will learn small business fundamentals, including equipment costing and pricing, overhead, profit margins, labour burdens, down time, and business planning as they relate to self-employment in the turfgrass industry.
Prerequisites: GCTM 1000GCTM 1080 cr-4
Turfgrass Workplace ExperienceStudents will engage in full time on the job work experience for four weeks at a turfgrass maintenance business chosen by them. They may take it more than once and for periods of not less than a week and no more than two weeks at a time.
