Graduation Ceremony and Regalia Application

All students who successfully complete or are about to complete their program of study between June 1, 2001 and May 31, 2002 are encouraged to attend their graduation ceremony.
Final confirmation and permission to attend this ceremony is dependant on the student completing the following prior to April 15, 2002:
If your account shows a hold at the time of the Graduation Ceremony, your credential will be withheld. It is the student's responsibility to ensure that all fees and fines have been cleared.
If you have questions regarding your courses and have not applied for graduation, please make an appointment to see an Educational Advisor for further assistance.
If you have completed courses at outside Institutions and are requesting Transfer Credit, it is your responsibility to ensure that all documentation has been submitted and assessed 8 weeks prior to Graduation (April 2, 2002). If you have any
questions about the status of your Transfer Credit you may check your student records on-line
or contact the Transfer Credit Evaluation Office at 604.599.2675.
Please note: Only students who are eligible to graduate will be sent further information about the 2002 Graduation Ceremony.
Graduands who will not be attending the Graduation Ceremony on May 24, 2002 will have their credentials mailed prior to June 30, 2002.
There are four awards presented to graduating students at the Graduation Ceremony. The deadline for applications for these awards is April 30, 2002. Please take a moment to review the following list, and submit your application early for any award you may be interested in. Award forms are located at each of Kwantlen University College's Financial Awards Offices.
Governor General's Academic Medal
An award, presented by the Governor General of Canada, is awarded annually to a Kwantlen University College student. It is considered the highest academic honour Kwantlen University College can bestow. Normally, it is awarded to the student who, in the opinion of the Selection Committee, has attained the highest academic standing in the graduation year of a two year Diploma Program. Kwantlen University College is pleased to match the Governor General's Medal with $500.00 No formal application is required. The Governor General's Academic Medal will be presented at the Graduation Ceremony.
On behalf of the Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia, a medal is awarded to a graduate of a substantial vocational or career program of studies of less than two years duration. The student chosen should be one who has not only excelled in studies but has also contributed in a positive way to the life of the University College or community. Criteria: program of studies less than two years in duration; achievement in area of study; community or University College volunteer activities; faculty recommendation. Kwantlen University College is pleased to match the Lieutenant Governor's Medal with $500.00. No formal application is required. The Lieutenant Governor's Medal is presented at the Graduation Ceremony.
In recognition of George Wootton's outstanding dedication, service and contributions to the community University College system, the University College Board has established an award fund in his name. The student must have achieved significant academic success but need not have the best overall achievement. Contribution to community and/or University College extracurricular or voluntary activities must be considered equally with academic success. Criteria: a) Significant academic success but need not have the best overall achievement as does the Governor General's Academic Award. b) Contribution to community and/or University College extracurricular or voluntary activities must be considered equally with (a). c) All students should be eligible regardless of program. d) In the case of a tie, the student who has shown the most significant improvement should be given preference. Amount: $525.00 Application deadline is April 30, 2002. The George C. Wootton Award is presented at the Graduation Ceremony.
An award is presented annually to encourage Kwantlen University College students in all fields of study to excel in their chosen field and to participate in University College, student and community activities to the benefit of others. Criteria: completed all study in an individual program at Kwantlen University College; consistently shown outstanding ability in the field of study; contributed in a significant way to University College, student and or community affairs; a student may only receive this award once; recommendations from faculty will be considered. Amount: $500. Application deadline is April 30, 2002. The President's Outstanding Graduate Award is presented at the Graduation Ceremony.
Kwantlen University College's 20th Annual Graduation Ceremony will be held May 24, 2002, at the Chandos Pattison Auditorium, in Surrey.
This year, Kwantlen University College has divided their graduation ceremony into two events. The first Graduation Ceremony will be held at 1300 (programs) and the second graduation ceremony will be held at 1900 (programs).
Each graduand attending the Graduation Ceremony may bring three guests. Tickets are not required. As there will be limited seating graduands are asked to respect this limit. Audience Seating: seating is on a first-come, first-served basis. Relatives and friends must be seated at least 30 to 45 minutes prior to the Graduation Ceremony.
The Graduation Ceremony will be approximately 2 hours in length. As not to disrupt the ceremony, graduands are requested to attend the full length of the ceremony.
If you are a person with a disability or are bringing a guest with a disability and wish to arrange accommodation, please fill in the appropriate area on the Graduation Ceremony and Regalia Application Form. A Kwantlen University College staff member will contact you to arrange accommodation(s).
Parking is located at the Pacific Academy - Chandos Pattison Auditorium free of charge. Handicapped parking is also available.
Alcoholic beverages are not permitted.
Important Reminder: All graduands attending this year's graduation ceremony will receive an "assembly card". It is important that you bring this card with you the day of the ceremony. (Further instructions will be supplied to all graduands attending.)
Graduands may pick up their graduation gown in the Chandos Pattison Auditorium two hours prior to their graduation ceremony. Faculty and Administrators may also pick up their graduation regalia two hours prior to the Graduation Ceremony. Graduands, Faculty and Administrators planning to attend this year's graduation ceremony, must order their regalia prior to April 15, 2002. (see Graduation Regalia Application).
Please be advised, academic regalia must be returned after your graduation ceremony.Failure to return your regalia will result in a charge of $200.00. All academic records will be withheld until the regalia is returned or charges are paid.
All Bachelor Degree graduands will be wearing the mortarboard commonly referred to as caps and academic hoods. Each hood symbolizes the completion of degree studies. As well, all Bachelor degree graduands will be gowned in Navy Blue.
Faculty and Administrators wearing hoods and gowns will be representing their college or university graduate colours identifying their degrees.

A professional photographer will be available before and after the graduation Ceremony for photographs.
Due to the number of graduands in attendance at each ceremony, it is recommended to have your photos done ahead of time.
