The assignment of scholarships and awards is based primarily on academic achievement, although other factors such as character, community involvement, athletic achievement, and financial need may also be considered in respect to certain awards. Scholarships and awards are open for competition to all students. Unless otherwise noted on the individual description, the Kwantlen University College Scholarship and Awards Committee will select the recipients. For a complete list of Scholarships and Awards, please consult the Awards, Bursaries and Scholarships guide available at the Financial Awards Offices or check our scholarships on the web.
Bursaries
These are non-repayable awards, which are allocated primarily on the basis of financial need, although other factors such as academic standing and community involvement may also be considered. For information about Bursaries, please consult the Awards, Bursaries and Scholarships guide available at the Financial Awards Offices.
BC Students Assistance Program (BCSAP)
This is open to Canadian citizens or landed immigrants who are British Columbia residents and cannot finance their education without financial assistance. Students must also qualify for this program on the basis of assessed need, and the amount of funding will be determined by program criteria. Eligible applicants will be studying in a full-time (defined as 60 percent of a full course load) post-secondary level program. Assistance may consist of a combination of repayable (loan) and non-repayable (grant) funding.
Loans must be repaid six months after the borrower ceases to be a full-time student, interest is charged for this period. Provincial BC Grants and Canada Millennium Scholarship Grants are non-repayable.
For more information on the Canada Student Loan, BC Student Loan, BC Grant or Loan Remission Programs, or application forms, please contact the Kwantlen University College Financial Awards Office.
Fee Deferrals
Students who have applied for the BC Student Assistance Program (BCSAP) for the Fall, Spring and Summer semesters may be eligible for a Fee Deferral. A Fee Deferral allows a student to delay payment of fees incurred through registration until the loan or grant cheque is received.
Please note, as well that if a Fee Deferral has been set up, the Fee Assessment in the Telephone or the Web Registration System will indicate temporarily that no fees are owing. In fact, the fees are still owing and will be payable immediately upon receipt of the student loan or grant unless courses are dropped on or before the fee payment deadline.
The Ministry of Advanced Education, Training and Technology funds several programs to assist students who meet the specific criteria. The following is an outline of some of the programs. Further information and application forms are available through the Financial Awards Office.
Work Study Program
The BC Workstudy program is a component of the B.C. Student Assistance Program (BCSAP) designed to provide additional financial assistance to post-secondary students who have demonstrated financial need. Students who have documented financial need under BCSAP, ABESAP or TAB qualify for additional funding through this employment opportunity.
Adult Basic Education Student Assistance Program (ABESAP)
This Program is available to assist adults who are upgrading their education at the pre-post-secondary level. This funding is given out in the form of direct payment of tuition fees. Eligible students will be Canadian citizens or landed immigrants studying either full or part-time in one of the following areas: Academic & Career Preparation (ACP), English Language Training (ELT), English as a Second Language (ESL), College Prep., or Access Programs for People with Disabilities. Again, financial need will be considered in the qualifications.High Need Part-time Canada Study Grant Program (HNPTCSG)
The HNPTCSG, is available to assist students studying in an eligible post-secondary level program in a course load below 60 per cent. Funding is available as direct payment of tuition fees and students must have a reason for not carrying a full course load (defined as 60 per cent or more).
