Automotive - Industrial Upholstery/Trim

Length of Program: 9 months

Description

This program prepares students for entry-level employment as automotive upholsterers. Basic theory and related information along with hands-on shop practice will enable students to become competent in basic and custom automotive upholstery work.

Career Opportunities

Employment opportunities exist with automotive body shops, upholstery shops, glass shops, aviation industry and industrial upholstery trimming shops that specialize in a particular area of work, such as restoring cars or custom work.

Admission Requirements

Grade 10 reading comprehension and math skills as assessed by Kwantlen, and satisfactory physical health. Must have a good working knowledge of the English language and a genuine interest in the restoration of automobiles.

Content

UPHA 1101: General Information

• Safety and handling equipment
• Sewing machine operation
• Trim and hardware
• Materials, estimates and public relations
• Models and styles of automobiles

UPHA 1102: Door Panels

• Design, layout, cutting, sewing and installation of door panels in custom or original interiors.

UPHA 1103: Seats

• Remove seat covers, design, layout and sew new covers - then install

UPHA 1104: Carpets

• Remove, pattern, sew and install carpets in automobiles

UPHA 1105: Glass

• Remove and install glass in vehicles.

UPHA 1106: Headliners

• Remove, layout, cut and sew a new headliner, plus
  installation

UPHA 1107: Vinyl Tops

• Remove, pattern and sew a new vinyl top and install to meet factory original specifications

Graduation

Upon successful completion of this program, students are awarded a Certificate in Automotive/Industrial Upholstery/ Trim.
