Offered at Langley, Richmond and Surrey (All courses are not offered on all campuses each semester) DescriptionOption: Diploma and CertificateThe objective of the Accounting Diploma (20 courses) is to provide a well-rounded accounting and business education. The Accounting Certificate (10 courses) has been designed to provide education in specific areas of accounting. Career OpportunitiesThere will always be a need for individuals who can provide accurate and timely financial data to managers, investors and creditors. As computers, government, inflation, unions and a shrinking world make the business environment more complex, the demand for these "information" professionals will grow. The Accounting Certificate and Diploma Programs prepare graduates for a career in this area. Financial Managers are not restricted to any specific type of industry, management level or country. Graduates will find that these programs allow them to function effectively in most entry-level accounting positions. Many graduates use the program courses as exemptions toward one of the professional accounting programs (CA, CGA or CMA). Admission RequirementsCertificate & DiplomaStudents wishing to complete the program without having to undertake any preparatory courses need to enter with a: See English or Applied Communications course descriptions for requirements Note: Since adequate Mathematics and English skills are important for a successful career in Accounting, students embarking on the Accounting Certificate are encouraged to take the Mathematics and English assessments, so that any deficiencies can be corrected. CertificateDescriptionCertificate requirements are flexible in order to enable students the opportunity to select courses, which will suit their individual career objectives. Whether the objective is to obtain transfer courses for accounting associations, qualifications necessary to obtain employment in accounting, or to upgrade accounting skills for promotion, students will find that the Accounting Certificate program can be adapted to their needs. Due to prerequisite and course scheduling considerations careful course planning is required. Students should consult an Accounting Faculty member when considering the Accounting Certificate. (It is unlikely that the Certificate can be completed in two semesters.) ContentCertificate RequirementsStudents must complete ten courses.

DiplomaDescriptionThe Accounting Diploma Program prepares students for entry-level accounting positions and for professional accounting programs (CA, CGA, or CMA). The Accounting Diploma Program is a two-year program, beginning in September of each year. However, students may complete the program on a part-time basis over a longer period. Evening courses are also available. During the program students progress through basic accounting concepts and procedures to more advanced topics such as financial accounting, management accounting, finance, taxation and auditing. There are also courses in related subjects such as economics, computerized business systems, marketing and management. As well, this diploma program transfers as a block to the Open University toward the Bachelor of Business Administration Degree.
