Outdoor Power Equipment Technician


Offered at Langley

Description

A graduate of this program will have the fundamental technical skills, knowledge, and attitudes to begin work as an apprentice diagnostic and repair technician within the outdoor power equipment trade. Students will use practical shop facilities to gain competence in a range of service operations. Customer relations skills are emphasized. Skills are developed through hands-on shop experience and other activities. The program is organized around the individual needs of the students, and these needs will determine its actual length. Credit will be given for past experience if students can demonstrate the required skills and knowledge.

The program is offered Monday through Friday on a continuous-intake basis. Most students complete the program in eight to ten months. A work experience component is included.

Students will require appropriate steel-toed safety shoes or boots.

Career Opportunities

The outdoor power equipment industry has an ongoing need for skilled and suitably qualified repair technicians. Employment opportunities may be found with franchise dealers, independent service shops, equipment rental firms, and authorized service depots.

Admission Requirements

General Kwantlen admission requirements apply. Also required: Grade 10 reading comprehension and math skills as assessed by Kwantlen, and satisfactory physical health.
