Effective date of this calendar, unless otherwise indicated, is Sept. 1, 2002 to Aug. 31, 2003. DescriptionThis program provides students with the skills and knowledge to become competent welders upon successful completion of all the welding courses in each level. Students will develop the necessary habits concerning safety and the proper use of time and materials necessary as competent welders in today's market. Career OpportunitiesGraduates of Kwantlen's welding program are in demand by industry. Graduates will be prepared to enter an apprenticeship. Welders are employed in forestry, mining, petro-chemical, transportation, and marine industries. Admission RequirementsGeneral Kwantlen admission requirements apply. Also required: Grade 10 reading comprehension and math skills as assessed by Kwantlen, and satisfactory physical health. ContentHands-on shop experience is the basis on which skills are developed in the program. This program is developed around the individual needs of students and these needs will determine its actual length. The program is designed to accommodate past experience, and credit and/or advancement will be given to students who can demonstrate learned skills plus theoretical knowledge. The course content is organized into modules to ensure maximum flexibility for individualized training. Students will require appropriate personal safety clothing and footwear. These programs are offered Monday through Friday on a continuous-intake basis.
