KPU to host Institute for Transborder Studies Conference

Wed, Jun 5, 2013

Metro Vancouver, BC – Kwantlen Polytechnic University’s (KPU) Institute for Transborder Studies (ITS) is pleased to host the 2013 ITS Conference, “Non-State Actor Responsibilities: Empirical Findings and Theoretical Considerations,” from June 26-28, 2013.

The conference will address issues that have dominated headlines over the past number of years around the concerns of individuals and groups adversely affected by multinational corporations. The conference will also focus on the legal approaches and institutions that were established to regulate and enforce the law, including criminal courts and voluntary codes of conducts.

“At a time when British Columbians are debating the benefits of economic investment against the preservation of the environment, and Canada is navigating new foreign policy approaches, conference attendees will gain knowledge that will enable them to better assess the legal opportunities and challenges that affect their everyday lives,” said Noemi Gal-Or, Director of the ITS and KPU Professor of Politics and International Law.

The conference is a partnership between KPU’s ITS and Political Science Department, the Non-State Actor Committee of the International Law Association, the International Law Association of Canada, the Leuven Centre for Global Governance Studies, and the Flemish Fund for Scientific Research Belgium, and is open to researchers, faculty, students or individuals interested in non-state actor responsibilities.

ITS Conference 2013 will take place at KPU’s Richmond Campus at 8771 Lansdowne Road.
