About the Students

When KPU Brewing & Brewery Operations students Kayla Gibson and Kyle Jansen met up to brainstorm their signature recipe, it was a cold rainy day. So, they decided on a brown ale and the name Overcast was inspired by the drizzly West Coast weather.  

Kayla was majoring in geography and paleontology when they decided they wanted to switch gears and applied to the Brewing program. Kayla loves the physical, hands-on learning at KPU and when not in school or working at Faculty Brewing, you can find Kayla rock climbing or reading a good book somewhere quiet.

Kyle studied science and psychology before discovering his passion for beer and the KPU Brewing Diploma. He’s loving the program and the close friendships of his classmates, which has been a life-changing experience for him. You can currently find Kyle working at Five Roads Brewing in Langley.
