Graduate Nurse Qualifying


Offered at Surrey Campus
Description
Through directed home-study, workshops, and clinical practice, the Graduate Nurse Qualifying courses are designed to meet the needs of nurses who have been educated in other countries, and have not had sufficient educational preparation in obstetric, pediatric or mental health nursing to meet the requirements of the Registered Nurses Association of British Columbia.
Career Opportunities
These courses are designed to assist the graduate to meet basic educational requirements for nurse registration in British Columbia.
Admission Requirements
In addition to Kwantlen's general admission requirements, applicants must complete the following requirements before final acceptance into the program:
  • Letter from the RNABC stating the need for a qualifying course in one or more of the following areas (maternal-child, pediatric, mental health nursing).
  • English language assessment (written TOEFL 550 or Computer TOEFL 213, SLEP 61, TSE 50).
  • CPR Level C certificate. CPR certification must remain current throughout the program.
  • Immunizations consistent with the requirements of clinical agencies.
  • Two criminal record searches: a general RCMP search completed within 3 months prior to enrolling in the course to meet Kwantlen University College requirements and an RNABC search under the Criminal Record Review Act to meet facility requirements in pediatric and obstetrical settings.
  • An interview with the Program Coordinator or designate may be required.
Content
These courses admit students at regular intervals throughout the fall, spring, and summer semesters. The courses are self-paced and are completed within four months.

Costs
In addition to tuition and textbooks, student financial obligations include uniforms, travel and English language testing (TSE and TOEFL).

Upon successful completion of this program, students will be awarded
