Community Support Worker

Description
The Community Support Worker program educates workers to
support individuals with mental disabilities. This diploma program
is offered over four semesters. Students may exit after 3 semesters
with a certificate. The certificate program is offered full-time with a
select number of seats available for day part-time students. The
diploma semester is offered through late afternoon or evening
classes. Each semester has theory and field practice components
that focus on a community development model.
Career Opportunities
Graduates of the program are qualified to work in a variety of
settings (residential, vocational and educational) that support adults
and children with mental disabilities.
Admission Requirements
In addition to the general Kwantlen University College
requirements, the following specific prerequisites apply to this
program:
English 12 with a C or better or approved equivalent; or recent LPI score 26 level 4; or sufficient EPT results.
50 hours or more of volunteer work within the last 18 months or current or previous employment in the Human Services field within the last 24 months
Two current reference letters of employment or volunteer work.
Satisfactory medical assessment by a physician within six months prior to entry into the program.
A valid St. John Ambulance Standard First Aid Course, or approved equivalent (2 day program).
Personal career letter describing experiences, career interests and aspirations in the human services field.
* Note: Documentation for the above requirements must be
received at the Admissions Office by March 31.
An acceptable Criminal Record Search completed within three months prior to entry into the program.
An interview with the program coordinator/faculty is required for final acceptance into the program.
