Lifestyles and Choices for Wellness
Students will explore the concept of wellness and the components of a health enhancing lifestyle. They will reflect on their own experience of wellness, recognizing challenges and resources that may impact on their lifestyle choices and consequently, their health.
Health and Healing 1
Students will explore concepts and principles related to caring, basic human needs, growth and development across the life span, and common health challenges.
Health and Healing--Concepts for Practice
Students will explore concepts and principles related to caring, human needs, growth and development across the life span and problem solving common health challenges. They will examine care giving practices that promote and support client/resident focused interventions for health, healing, and end-of-life care.
Personal Care Skills I
Students will acquire skills in providing personal care aimed at maintaining and promoting the comfort, safety, and independence of client/residents in home support and resident care settings.

Clinical Practice
Students will gain experience in a variety of practice settings. They will apply theory while giving personal care to clients/residents with chronic health conditions. Students will develop caring relationships with individuals and enhance problem solving skills

Introduction to Workrole
Students will examine the legal, ethical and paraprofessional roles and responsibilities of the home support/resident care attendant (hs/rca) practitioner. They will focus on the knowledge, basic skills, attitudes and values required for practice.
Changes in Mental Functioning
Students will explore concepts and models applicable to the care of individuals experiencing changes in mental functioning. They will become familiar with the home and community resources that support individuals and families experiencing changes in mental functioning.
Health and Healing 2
Students will explore concepts and principles related to complex human needs and will problem-solve specific health challenges. They will examine resources and care giving practices that promote and support client/resident focused interventions for health, healing, and end-of-life care.
Prerequisites: HSRC 1104
Personal Care Skills II
Students will acquire home management skills in a simulated setting to provide care collaboratively with clients in their homes. They will practice adaptations to care to promote the comfort, safety and independence of the client in the home.
Prerequisites: HSRC 1125 and 1130
Practicum-Special Care Unit
Students will begin to apply communication strategies and take actions that enhance the ability of individuals with changes in mental functioning to maintain independence. They will have practice experiences on an adult special care unit.
Prerequisites: HSRC 1150 and 1130
Work Role II
Students will expand their knowledge of the roles of the Home Support Worker. They will explore their role in relation to the end of life care. Students will explore and reflect on culture and diversity. They will discuss approaches to finding employment.
Prerequisites: HSRC 1144 and 1130
Home Support/Resident Care Attendant Practicum
Students will consolidate knowledge and skills and prepare for assuming the responsibilities of an employee, during a full-time placement in both a long term care and home support setting.
Prerequisites: HSRC 1225 and 1240 and 1244
