Certificate In Automotive Industrial Upholstery/Trim

DESCRIPTION

This program prepares students for entry-level employment in the automotive upholstery industry. Basic theory and related information along with hands-on shop practice will enable students to become competent in basic and custom automotive upholstery work. CAREER OPPORTUNITIES

Employment opportunities exist with upholstery shops, glass shops, aviation industry and industrial upholstery trimming shops that specialize in work such as restoring cars or other custom work.

ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS

Students must meet either the regular student admission category or the mature student admission category in addition to the following:

  • Adequate reading comprehension and math skills as assessed by Kwantlen

  • Interview with instructor

Students with mental or physical impairments who may require program or practicum accommodations, should contact the Program Coordinator at 604.598.6126 to discuss required skills and competencies, and a Disability Advisor at 604.599.3233 to ensure appropriate accommodations can be arranged.

Due to the nature of this program, students should have satisfactory physical health.

CONTENT
  • Safety and handling equipment

  • Sewing machine operation

  • Trim and hardware

  • Materials, estimates and public relations

  • Models and styles of automobiles

  • Design, layout, cutting, sewing and installation of door panels in custom or original interiors

  • Remove seat covers, design, layout and sew new covers - then install

  • Remove, pattern, sew and install carpets in automobiles

  • Remove and install glass in vehicles

  • Remove, layout, cut and sew a new headliner, plus installation

  • Remove, pattern and sew a new vinyl top and install to meet factory original specifications

  • UPHA 1117 Automotive Vinyl Tops

GRADUATION

Upon successful completion of this program, students are awarded a Certificate in Automotive Industrial Upholstery/Trim.
