MASONRY CITATION
DESCRIPTION
In this 20 week program students will prepare to acquire training for employment as an apprentice Mason (Bricklayer). Masons work with brick, concrete and glass block, terra cotta and stone. Work can be as simple as laying a wall or as complex as installing an ornate exterior on a high-rise building. Masons work outside and the work is very physical. Masons use power and hand tools, and material moving equipment. Masons also read blueprints, building codes, industry safety requirements, and guidelines for handling hazardous materials. The scope and depth of this program is appropriate for students entering industry on a permanent basis. Hands-on shop experience is the basis on which skills are developed in the program.
Students who complete the Masonry Foundation program are eligible for credit for first level of apprenticeship technical training, as well as 400 work-based hours toward completion of the Manson (Bricklayer) apprenticeship program.
