DESCRIPTION
The Level C welding program provides students with the skills and knowledge to become competent welders. Students will develop the necessary habits concerning safety and the proper use of time and materials necessary as competent welders in today's market. The logbook registration at the C Level will require apprentices to complete work-based hours in the welding field. (subject to change by ITA).
The Level B 16 week (480 hours) program provides more advanced welding skills, techniques and theory. The logbook registration at the B Level will require apprentices to complete work-based hours in the welding field. (subject to change by ITA).
The Level A 8 week (240 hours) program provides the welder with the broadest base of skills and knowledge. Students completing this level of training should be prepared to work in any industrial environment requiring welding. The logbook registration at the A Level will require apprentices to complete work-based hours in the welding field. (subject to change by ITA).
These programs are offered Monday through Friday. During the week there are day, afternoon and evening shifts.

- Pre-Qualified welding procedures (PWP)

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES
Graduates of Kwantlen's welding programs are in demand by industry. Welders are employed in manufacturing, fabrication shops, forestry, mining, petrochemical, transportation, and marine industries.
ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS
Students must meet either the regular student admission category or the mature student admission category in addition to the following:
- Adequate reading comprehension and math skills as assessed by Kwantlen
- Satisfactory physical health
- Level B requires completion of level C training or successful Level C challenge through ITA.
- Level A requires completion of level B training plus completion of Weld 2160, Basic Gas Tungsten Arc Welding module, if not completed during Level B training, or successful Level B challenge through ITA
- Interview by an instructor

CONTENT
Hands-on shop experience is the basis on which skills are developed in the program. The program is designed to accommodate past experience; credit and/or advancement will be given to students who can demonstrate learned skills plus theoretical knowledge. Levels are completed in the order of C, B, and A. The course content is organized into modules to ensure maximum flexibility. There are two types of modules in the welding program. Practical Modules (P–Modules) deal with the actual practices and theory of welding processes and Related Knowledge Modules (RK–Modules) deal with theoretical knowledge required to gain employment as a welder.

- WELD 2120 (P–8) Gas Metal Arc Alloy Welding
- WELD 2140 (P–9) Advanced Flux Core Arc Welding
- WELD 2160 (P–10) Basic Gas Tungsten Arc Welding
Note: If you plan on going on to Welding Level A, completion of WELD 2160 (P-10) is mandatory.

Special Equipment
Students will require appropriate personal safety clothing and CSA approved steel toed boots. Safety glasses, hearing protection, leather gloves, leather jacket or apron, welding helmet and cutting goggles are also required. A complete list of tools and equipment will be provided by Admissions and will be available on the Trades website: www.kwantlen.ca/trades
GRADUATION
Upon successful completion of Welding – Level C, students are awarded a Certificate and a Welder's Log Book with Level C endorsement.
Upon successful completion of Welding – Level B, students are awarded a Citation and the Level B training endorsement in their Log Book.
Upon successful completion of Welding – Level A, students are awarded a Citation and the Level A training endorsement in their Log Book.
