Intake: September

Graduation

Upon successful completion of this program, students are awarded a Bachelor of Technology Degree. Graduates may use the designation B.Tech. (I.T.) after their names.

Description

The Bachelor of Technology Degree in Information Technology (IT) provides students with a balanced education in computer systems, database systems, software development, computer programming, data communications and networking, business and management, liberal education, communications and personal skills. The first two years of the degree are based on the Computer Information Systems (CISY) Diploma Program. Students holding a CISY diploma from Kwantlen or other institutions may study for the equivalent of two more years to complete the degree. Courses are offered in the evenings and on weekends so that working professionals may complete the degree outside their working hours.

Students study advanced information technology that integrates problem solving skills, technical skills and business knowledge. In addition, liberal education courses are designed to equip them with the human perspectives, which are an essential element for success in today's multicultural milieu and globalized marketplace. The co-operative education internship components expand the skills of students in the areas of personal management, communications, and teamwork skills. Students who are employed in the IT industry may be granted an exemption from the co-operative education component.

This degree program prepares graduates to work in a wide variety of the computing industry. Graduates may find employment as programmers, programmer/analysts, systems analysts, technical sales representatives, information analysts, software engineers, telecommunications specialists, network support analysts, systems administrators, consultants, technical support analysts, user support analysts, database analysts and technical writers.
