Bookkeeping BasicsStudents will practise basic bookkeeping functions for a service company. They will perform all functions of the complete accounting cycle, reconcile bank statements and perform payroll functions.

Office DynamicsStudents will practice career and interpersonal skills necessary for success in the workplace. They will work in teams to examine administrative, ergonomic and efficiency functions of a business office.

Computer CompetencyStudents will produce databases, spreadsheets and reports using Microsoft Excel and Access.

Word ProcessingStudents will produce business documents using specific features of word processing software.

Business CommunicationsStudents will practise English Language Skills, applying the mechanics of style, developing proofreading and editing skills and using words effectively. They will apply these skills to a variety of business communications.

Computerized BookkeepingStudents will review accounting concepts and will use Simply Accounting. They will use comprehensive simulation projects to apply the accounting concepts.

Information ProcessingStudents will use advanced features of electronic spreadsheets and databases as applied to business-based projects. They will participate in the administration and design of data management systems.

Executive SupportStudents will gain experience in office systems that support management success. They will set up meetings, create agendas, take minutes and follow through with assigned tasks. Students will use presentation software to create and deliver proposals, reports, and presentations. Students will apply the rules of business communication, format and presentation with the use of machine transcription assignments.

Word Processing - Level IIStudents will create and edit business documents using advanced word processing features. They will participate in individual and group projects, simulating a realistic office environment, with emphasis on efficiency, problem solving, teamwork, and knowledge of the versatility and advanced capabilities of word processing software.

Introduction to Desktop PublishingStudents will participate in the desktop publishing process by examining design principles and producing documents. They will also design and produce personal and professional documents, including letterhead, business cards, flyers, brochures, newsletters, reports, and manuals. They will use advanced word processing features to create and produce these documents.

Word Processing Level II-Legal SecretarialStudents will learn word processing features of Microsoft Word. They will be participating in realistic, practical keyboarding simulations. Students will apply proofreading, editing and formatting skills

General Legal Office ProceduresStudents will learn the fundamental duties of the legal secretary. Subjects covered will include preparation of correspondence, basic legal instruments, court documents, time keeping, diary systems, filing, legal record keeping, legal terminology, sources of law, and court systems.

Legal Office Procedures - ConveyancingStudents will apply the procedures and documentations related to the transfer of real estate in British Columbia. This course will focus on the transfer of title of residential properties, including strata title and mortgage financing.

Legal Office Procedures - Will & EstatesStudents will prepare and process wills, codicils, applications for Letters Probate and Letters of Administration, correspondence regarding estates, distribution and passing of accounts.

Legal Office Procedures-Litigation and Family LawThis course will introduce students to the process of civil litigation in British Columbia. They will learn the preparation and processing of civil litigation documents, including trial procedures and collections procedures resulting from court judgments. Family Law focuses on the legal procedures and documentation related to marriage agreements, separation agreements, division of family assets and defended and undefended divorces. Students will become familiar with the requirements of the Divorce Act and the Family Relations Act.

Legal Office Procedures-Corporate LawStudents will be introduced to the BC Company Act, and the terminology and procedures relating to corporate law. Students will prepare and process the documentation required for incorporation of a company, for post-incorporation, for annual requirements and for registration and filing with the Registrar of Companies.
Prerequisites: ABTY 1233Students will apply concepts and recording practices of financial events. The concepts and procedures are applied to complete accounting cycles for service and merchandising firms.

Accpac Computerized AccountingStudents will convert financial data from a manual bookkeeping system to AccPac's general ledger, accounts receivable, and accounts payable ledgers. They will apply accounting concepts and procedures to analyze and record current financial data in the above ledgers.

Medical Terminology IStudents will study the foundations of medical terms that describe the anatomy, physiology and pathology of the body systems.

Medical Terminology IIStudents will continue to study advanced medical terms that describe the anatomy, physiology and pathology of the body systems.

Medical Office ProceduresStudents will be introduced to the administrative duties of the medical office which include: answering the telephone, making appointments, typing letters, transcribing correspondence and patient histories and office procedures manual.

Clinical ProceduresStudents will study selected clinical skills performed in the medical office and strive towards achievement of professional competency.

Computerized Medical BillingThis course is designed to introduce student to the basic concepts of computer billing and collections, insurance processing, and appointment scheduling.

Job Preparation and Practicum/ProjectThis course provides the student with effective employment search skills. The student will gain practical knowledge of an office environment. The student will, at the discretion of the instructor, be assigned to an office for a two week work experience or be required to submit a project relating to office employment.
