Nursing Theory IStudents will acquire knowledge and skills, particularly communication skills, essential for the care of clients. Nursing skills will be emphasized. Selected nursing skills will be practiced. Students will become familiar with nursing in Canada, teaching/learning theory, health promotion, the nursing process and the Allen Model of Nursing.

Canadian Culture and the Health Care EnvironmentStudents will examine social epidemiology, health seeking behaviour and the health care delivery context in Canada with reference to client and professional values and expectations.

Nursing Theory IIStudents will use the nursing process in planning care for clients with medical-surgical health challenges. They will discuss the Erickson model of human development and will examine legal, ethical and professional issues.

Nursing ExperienceThe 20 week clinical experience students will provide nursing care for two to four clients with adaptation problems. The units used are adult medical, surgical and extended care.

Nursing Theory IIIStudents will review theory required for the nurse registration examination with an emphasis on maternal, child and mental health nursing. They will practice writing multiple choice examinations.
Prerequisites: EASL 1200 and GNEA 1201 and 1202
Corequisites: EASL 1230, GNEA 1302Students integrate knowledge and skills in the care of adult medial, surgical or extended care clients. Students will gradually assume more clients and function as beginning nurse practitioners.
