Automation/Robotics Engineering Technology
AUTO 2312 cr-3
Advanced Manufacturing
Students will study the principles, methods and applications of manufacturing. Topics students will cover include: conventional and advanced manufacturing design, planning and control technologies, basic metal working processes, manufacturing materials, manual and computer numerically-controlled machining, CAD/CAM interface, manufacturing economics, computer applications and computer simulation of manufacturing operations. Manufacturing system control and simulation software will be introduced.
Prerequisites: 1st year of program
AUTO 2315 cr-3
C++ Programming
Students will program a number of different systems in Object Oriented Programming (OOP) C++ to illustrate its portability and use. They will also study Windows programming techniques
Prerequisites: ELTN 1113
AUTO 2319 cr-2
Data Networking
Students will examine Internet protocols, methods and frame structures, as well as data exchanges between computers and peripherals. Topics students will cover include: applications of serial and parallel ports in Hyper Terminal and Direct Cable Connect; and applications of HDLC, PPP, Ethernet and TCP/IP on the Internet.
Prerequisites: ELTN 1219

Students will study the principles and applications of control systems using manual techniques and simulation software such as MATLAB/SIMULINK.
Prerequisites: 1st year of program
AUTO 2417 cr-2
Circuit Applications
Students will study the control system circuits and applications. They will apply electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic principles and technology in their design and analysis of the circuits.
Prerequisites: ELTN 1217
AUTO 2420 cr-3
Industrial Processes
Students will study the conventional and advanced control strategies and applications in the typical industrial processes. They will prepare process control and instrumentation drawings with AutoCAD software, in accordance with the Instrumentation Society of America (ISA) recommended standards and practices. They will also perform control system simulation with MATLAB/SIMULINK software.
Prerequisites: AUTO 2320
AUTO 2421 cr-4
Instrumentation/PLC
Students will study the programmable logic controller (PLC), e.g. Allen Bradley and Modicon, and its applications. They will also perform instrument selection, interface, specification and application.
Prerequisites: AUTO 2320
AUTO 2422 cr-2
Robotics
Students will examine the problems and solutions associated with the hardware and software of robots.
Prerequisites: ELTN 1113 and 1114 and 1214
AUTO 2423 cr-2
Hydraulics and Pneumatics
Students will study the principles of hydraulics and pneumatics and apply them to analyze practical hydraulic and pneumatic circuits. They will examine the effects that sizing of components and the selection of specific types of equipment can have on basic circuit designs.
