Interdisciplinary Design Studies

Offered at Richmond Campus-Centre for Applied Design Studies and Communications.

Start Date: September (Full- and Part-time studies)

Description

This exploratory, foundational, 30 credit certificate program (IDDS) offers students the opportunity to learn the fundamentals of design, in areas such as theory, methodology, history, culture and communications. The program may assist students in preparing for entry into design-related disciplines. The program curriculum emphasizes personal development, creative problem solving, and critical thinking. Learning will take place in an interdisciplinary environment, which stresses the principles of integration, collaboration, and synthesis. The program celebrates diversity of thought, philosophy, values, approaches, and learning styles.

Student Profile

Students in the Interdisciplinary Design Studies program represent a mix of high school graduates and students who have prior secondary and/or post-secondary preparation. Given the anticipated mix of student backgrounds and requirements and the limited number of seats available in the program it is anticipated that some students will attend IDDS on a part-time basis.
