Effective date of this calendar, unless otherwise indicated, is Sept. 1, 2002 to Aug. 31, 2003. DescriptionThis program prepares students for entry-level employment as automotive upholsterers. Basic theory and related information along with hands-on shop practice will enable students to become competent in basic and custom automotive upholstery work. Career OpportunitiesEmployment opportunities exist with automotive body shops, upholstery shops, glass shops, aviation industry and industrial upholstery trimming shops that specialize in a particular area of work, such as restoring cars or custom work. Admission RequirementsGrade 10 reading comprehension and math skills as assessed by Kwantlen, and satisfactory physical health. Must have a good working knowledge of the English language and a genuine interest in the restoration of automobiles. ContentUPHA 1101: General InformationMaterials, estimates and public relations Models and styles of automobiles UPHA 1102: Door PanelsDesign, layout, cutting, sewing and installation of door panels in custom or original interiors. UPHA 1103: SeatsRemove seat covers, design, layout and sew new covers - then install UPHA 1104: CarpetsRemove, pattern, sew and install carpets in automobiles UPHA 1105: GlassRemove and install glass in vehicles. UPHA 1106: HeadlinersRemove, layout, cut and sew a new headliner, plus installation UPHA 1107: Vinyl TopsRemove, pattern and sew a new vinyl top and install to meet factory original specifications GraduationUpon successful completion of this program, students are awarded a Certificate in Automotive/Industrial Upholstery/ Trim.
