Cosmic rays from space can incapacitate satellites, cause plane autopilot systems to disengage without warning and change the result of an election. In this lecture, Dr. Camille Bélanger-Champagne will discuss how cosmic ray radiation affects a range of electronic devices, from deep space mission vehicles to the cell phone in your pocket, and will describe how particle accelerators are used to test the resistance of electronics to radiation-induced effects.
