(Fri June 29 2018) - The faculty of Health Bachelors of Psychiatric Nursing (BPN) program, successfully facilitated Navigating the BC Mental Health Act: Providing Competent Care and Patient Advocacy. BPN students and attendees of the workshop were treated to keynote speaker, Laura Johnston, a lawyer in the Community Law Program with the Community Legal Assistance Society, to discuss her work in the areas of disability rights, mental health and human rights, and to focus on the legislation surrounding the Mental Health Act. Workshop participants were also treated to an afternoon of students presentation from BPN students.
(Sat June 2 2018) - Several students in the Bachelor of Science - Advanced Entry program at KPU, were recently awarded bursaries through the Soroptimist Club of Vancouver and celebrated at the awards luncheon, which took place on June 2nd. The Helen McCrae Award for Nursing students is a bursary presented by Soroptimist International, in memory of Soroptimist Helen McCrae, former Dean of Women at the University of British Columbia, who was a strong advocate for women's education and nursing. BSNAE students Chelsea Reimer and Hannah Roy tied for first place, Haylee Hanswall and Porsche Campbell tied for second place, and Annaliste McLean was awarded an honourable mention.
