Labour Relations
The Labour Relations team manages labour issues, negotiates our two collective agreements, and administers the personnel policies and procedures that govern union and non-unionized staff. Our aim is to provide reliable support and to foster and facilitate ongoing collaboration in the realm of employee relations. Compensation
HR’s Compensation team is responsible for the design, development, implementation and maintenance of compensation-based programs at KPU. For Administrative staff this includes the KPU Talent Review and Merit Increase program, job design, job evaluation and salary placement. Compensation also works with members of BCGEU on the evaluation of roles in the bargaining unit (Joint Job Evaluation Committee). All Interim Appointment letters and Senior Administrative Employment contracts are administered by our Compensation team.

HR’s Health and Wellness team oversees programs and services which help you be your best you. This includes guidance and assistance with KPU’s group benefit plan (extended health, dental, life insurance, AD&D, and short & long-term disability), family status changes, retirement and pension information, disability and maternity/parental leaves, return to work options, workplace accommodations, wellness offerings, and employee & family assistance programs

Occupational Health and Safety
KPU Occupational Health and Safety supports the university's commitment to providing safe, healthy work and learning environments for the KPU community. Areas of support include ergonomics, safety inspections, safe work practices, safety training, accident and incident investigation and health and safety consultations and inquiries.

HR Information Systems
The HR Information Systems (HRIS) team is responsible for implementing, maintaining and managing all Human Resource information systems and supports the secure entry, storage, analysis and reporting of sensitive personnel data associated with KPU employees. HRIS liaises with Payroll Services and other areas within Human Resources to provide this support and works closely with the university’s Information Technology team to meet KPU’s data management requirements.

Organizational Development and Employee Experience
The Organizational Development and Employee Experience team supports the university in fostering a work environment where employees can work effectively in support of institutional goals. This includes the creation of strategies which support professional development, leadership development, performance reviews, succession planning, onboarding, employee engagement, respectful workplace and change management.

Talent Acquisition and Recruitment Services
Talent Acquisition and Recruitment Services provides expert advice, guidance, and training related to the recruitment, hiring, and onboarding of employee positions.
- Our HR Support Assistant responds to general HR enquiries, manages job postings, candidate assessment testing, and enters student employee contracts.
- Our Talent Acquisition Specialists work closely with hiring managers to source, screen, and interview candidates for non-bargaining unit positions and other hard-to-fill roles across KPU.
- Once candidates are hired, our Onboarding Associates connect those candidates who are new to KPU with the information they need to get up and running as smoothly as possible. This includes coordinating the completion of new hire forms, setting up new hires in the HR system, sharing important information about KPU, and answering questions that may arise.

HR Business Partnerships
Our HR Business Partners build partnerships across the HR function to deliver value-added service to management and employees that reflects the business objectives of KPU. They work closely with administrative leaders to understand current and future needs and provide expertise and guidance related to performance management, HR policy interpretation, collective agreements interpretation, department/area restructures, and workforce planning. They also provide support for employee engagement, matters surrounding new hires, promotions and transfers, and conducting teams’ annual talent reviews.

HR Administration
Our HR Associates are functional experts in KPU’s personnel management system. They Process employee information changes that occur throughout the employee life cycle including providing various letters and contracts to employees and faculty, and processing maintenance transactions (employee promotions, extensions, transfers, status changes, non-medical leaves, terminations and overpayments). They also provide information, advice, and guidance to employees and people managers regarding our collective agreements, policies, and terms and conditions, and how they interact with the employee life cycle.

Payroll
The Payroll team serves a key function processing bi-weekly payroll ensuring KPU employees receive their pay on time and with the correct deductions and withholdings. Payroll maintains compliance with statutory requirements to ensure all deductions and remittances are reported to all applicable agencies. They also prepare and file annual T4 reporting as well as Records of Employment (ROE).

Equity, Diversity and Inclusion
The Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) team within HR assists with the advancement of equity, diversity, inclusion, and decolonization work across KPU’s employee related systems, programs, and practices. The EDI team works with departments/areas to brainstorm and recommend tools and resources to use to help integrate EDI principles into everyday work.
