Indigenous Student Co-op Focus Group

About the Focus Group

The Career Development Centre's Employer Relations team is seeking 8-10 registered, self-identifying Indigenous students to participate in a student focus group session on November 30, 2022. This focus group is being conducted as part of a larger Career Development Centre (CDC) project entitled "A Seat at the Table: Expanding Co-op WIL Opportunities for Underrepresented Students and Programs" and is being facilitated in cooperation with Indigenous Services for Students.

The purpose of the focus group is to gather feedback on KPU's Co-op program as a follow up to the Indigenous Student Co-op Survey launched earlier in the Spring. The goal of the focus group is to assist the Career Development Centre to better serve Indigenous students by identifying challenges to their participation in Co-operative Education and developing strategies that would allow Indigenous students to more fully engage and excel in KPU’s Co-op program. **Knowledge about KPU’s Co-operative Education program is not required in order to participate in the focus group.**

The focus group’s targeted population are those KPU students who self-identified as Indigenous. For the purpose of participation, to be eligible, each participant must be currently registered as a KPU student and who has self-identified as being a member of an Indigenous people of Canada that include treaty, status/non-status, and/or registered/non-registered members of First Nations, Metis or Inuit. Selection of those eligible participants who will participate in this focus group will be at the sole discretion of KPU.

Gift Card and Food Voucher Components

All eligible students who register and are selected for the focus group will be given a $100 CAD e-gift card from Real Canadian Superstore and a $35 CAD credit voucher from Skip the Dishes. In adherence to KPU’s auditing requirements, students will be required to provide their student number and email address via a distributed form in order to claim their e-gift card and voucher.

*The following conditions apply: There are no substitutions allowed or available for the e-gift card or voucher; The e-gift card and voucher cannot be redeemed for cash value; The e-gift card from Real Canadian Superstore and food credit voucher from Skip the Dishes are subject to the issuing company’s conditions or terms of use including any expiry dates that may apply and KPU is not responsible, nor be held liable to the student, for any loss, breach of conditions or expiry date upon their receipt of the e-gift card and voucher from KPU; and internet access and independent registration to obtain a Skip the Dishes account by the student may be required to redeem the credit voucher from Skip the Dishes.

Confidentiality

Any personal information collected in relation to the focus group will be protected under the Freedom of Information & Protection of Privacy Act. Participants in the focus group will be required to complete, sign, and submit a Privacy Disclaimer form prior to participating in the focus group.
