After completing your Learning Channel Inventory you should be able to see where your preferences and strengths are as a learner. Of course you use all modalities to learn. However if you know that your visual learning is stronger than your auditory learning, then you need to really focus if your instructor is only telling you what to do and not giving your written instructions or diagrams. You could picture what your instructor is saying if you are visual. If you are kinesthetic you will be listening for the actions you need to take, because you like putting ideas into action to learn more effectively.
