Let’s Talk Brewing in celebration of Canadian Homebrew Day 2024 

Interested in learning about beer and brewing from an expert? Join KPU Brewing instructor Dominic Bernard, who has a Master of Science in Brewing and Distilling from Heriot-Watt University in Scotland, for a free talk, brewery tour and beer tasting. 

You'll also learn about:

  • The history of brewing from its origins to the current craft brewing scene
  • Foundational ingredients of beer: water, malt, hops and yeast
  • Equipment used in the brewing process and the underlying biochemical changes
  • Basic beer styles: ales, lagers and mixed fermentations

The lecture will be followed by a tour of KPU's award-winning brewery, where you'll be able to check out the state-of-the-art brewing and analysis equipment, sample some malt, rub hops and taste beer produced by KPU Brewing students.

In addition to a Master of Science in Brewing, Dominic also has a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry and worked at breweries in Belgium, Quebec and BC. He has been teaching in the KPU Brewing and Brewery Operations Program since it started in 2014.
