Laurie Phipps

I began teaching at the Melville School of Business at Camosun College (Victoria, BC) in the Department of Economics in January 1995 having completed a BA (economics) at Simon Fraser University (SFU, 1992) and an MA (economics) at Queen's University, Kingston (Queen's, 1993). I left Camosun College in December 2008 to return to Vancouver and joined the department of Economics at Kwantlen (KPU) as a non-regular faculty member in January, 2008. I subsequently became a continuing faculty member, joining the Business Quantitative Studies (BUQU) department in 2009 and remained there, teaching Business Math and Statistics until January 2016, when I returned to the department of Economics at KPU. Throughout this period, I also completed an MA in Distributed Learning (MADL) from Royal Roads University (RRU, 2003) and subsequently completed all coursework and comprehensive exams towards at Ph.D. in Educational Technology and Learning Design at SFU prior to leaving the program in January 2016.

As well, I have taught as an adjunct faculty member at RRU from 2003 through 2009 where I co-developed and Co-facilitated LRNT505 Community Building Processes for Online Learning Environments, a core course in Royal Roads University’s Master of Arts in Learning and Technology, (MALaT) degree. I also supervised a Master’s Thesis for an RRU learner who was presented a Royal Roads University Chancellor’s award for the highest academic performance in the Master of Arts in Distributed Education (MADL) program. I also continue to teach for the Business & Management Continuing Studies program at the University of Victoria (UVic), an introductory course in micro and macro-economics since 1996, first as a face-to-face course on the UVic campus, and since 2007 as a fully online course.
