Shauna McAuley-Bax

I am currently a full-time faculty member at Kwantlen Polytechnic University where I concentrate on quality education through classroom instruction, course creation, articulation, and consultation with international student advising. I received my M.A. from Simon Fraser University, and B.A. honours in Business and Economics from the University of Saskatchewan. My areas of speciality are economics and education, globalization and economics, and economics in development. My thesis explores the effects of policy reform on child labour in transition countries. The last paper I worked on focused on the prevalence and cause of bride kidnapping.  What I love about economics is that the topics in our courses apply to everyone regardless of the income, ethnicity, culture or anything else that could be viewed as being different. I use economics to try to help me and my students become better global citizens.

My areas of teaching include Introductory Economics, Principles of Microeconomics, Principles of Macroeconomics, Managerial Economics, Business Economics, Economics and Government, International Economics, Women and the Economy, and Environmental Economics, Resource Economics and Intermediate Microeconomics.

In addition to teaching economics at the university level, I have worked in cooperation with sustainability groups developing lesson plans for public schools incorporating economic principles to green living.  My passion for teaching began when I organized literacy projects for primary school students.  In 2008, I founded a Book Share Program that allows students to be proactive in economic development.   As an active member of the Project Management Institute and the Association for Professional Economists, I have worked together with private sector professionals on a variety of projects.  

I love the outdoors, hiking and camping.  My current passion is working with international organizations who help children in poverty.
