Kwantlen honours Langley graduate with George C. Wootton Award

(METRO VANCOUVER, B.C.) Kwantlen Bachelor of Business Administration in Human Resources Management and Diploma in Marketing Management graduate Shannon Johnston, a Langley resident, has received the George C. Wootton Award at Kwantlen Polytechnic University’s 2009 Convocation ceremony held at its Surrey Campus.

Receiving an award for outstanding success at university graduation might have seemed out of reach when Johnston finished high school, but after an inspired university experience at Kwantlen, she is proud to receive a degree as well as a diploma, and accept the George C. Wootton Award at Convocation.

Admittedly not the best student in high school, Johnston was motivated by the guidance she received from Kwantlen faculty to apply herself to work hard towards her goals and contribute to the community. She became Kwantlen’s student liaison for the B.C. Human Resources Management Association and collaborated with student liaisons from other Fraser Valley universities to form a “New Professionals Roundtable Group” that provides young HR professionals with professional development opportunities.

“Many of my faculty have become my mentors and role models. They have always been available to offer guidance, advice, and to share their wisdom and experiences. And I know that many of them will continue to be there for me well into the future,” said Johnston.

Kwantlen’s Board of Governors established this award to recognize outstanding dedication, service and contribution to the university system. This award considers a student’s contribution to the community, Kwantlen or voluntary activities as well as academic success.
