KPU awards $28,000 in entrance scholarships to Delta students

(METRO VANCOUVER, B.C.) In recognition of outstanding academic standing and leadership, KPU awarded the following four Delta high school students with entrance scholarships: Marlena Ginocchio from Burnsview Secondary received the President’s Award valued at $14,000; Samantha Lewis from Delview Secondary received the Honour Award valued at $7,000; Emily Parsons from South Delta Secondary received the Merit Award valued at $3,500; and Jenny Vasilopoulos from Sands Secondary School received the Merit Award valued at $3,500.

“I am thrilled to receive the Honour Award. It is a great accomplishment and reward for all of my hard work,” commented Lewis, who plans to pursue an associate of science degree. “This award helps me a great deal financially and allows me to participate in athletics without having to work full-time to fund my education.”

Nominated by a representative from their high school, the KPU Leaders of Tomorrow awards are given to top academic high school students who will be pursuing full-time studies at KPU. President’s Awards, Honour Awards and Merit Awards are awarded to four South Fraser region school districts including Richmond, Surrey, Delta and Langley. In total 12 awards were presented totalling $98,000.

KPU offers over $100,000 in scholarships and awards annually to students who are enrolling at KPU for the first time. Academic excellence, program of study, community/school involvement and volunteer activities are some of the factors in the selection process. Eligible students may be nominated by their school district representatives, in order to be considered for one of KPU’s Leaders of Tomorrow Entrance Awards. For more info, visit: kpu.ca/awards
