Kwantlen honours science graduate with Governor General's Collegiate Bronze Medal

(METRO VANCOUVER, B.C.) Erin Shankie, Diploma of Technology in Environmental Protection graduate and Port Alberni resident was presented the Governor General's Collegiate Bronze Medal at Kwantlen Polytechnic University’s June 2009 Convocation ceremony held at the Surrey Campus.

Soon after enrolling in the Environmental Protection Technology program at Kwantlen, Shankie was immediately impressed by the hands-on learning approach and extensive fieldwork training. During her time at Kwantlen, Shankie deeply appreciated the smaller class sizes, which not only provided a supportive learning environment but also enabled her to develop a strong camaraderie with her classmates and Kwantlen faculty.

Through co-operative education, Shankie gained key industry experience as well as networked with industry professionals. This led to a full-time position in environmental services at Public Works and Government Services Canada.

Now a graduate, Shankie reflects on her experience at Kwantlen, “My best memories of Kwantlen are the friendships I formed with my extremely bright classmates, as well as the faculty who provided superior instruction in such a supportive and interactive atmosphere.”

On behalf of the Governor General of Canada, this medal is awarded annually to a Kwantlen student who, in the opinion of the selection committee, has attained the highest academic standing in the graduation year of a two-year diploma program. It is one of the highest academic honours Kwantlen can bestow.
