Kwantlen Polytechnic University supports the government's new Education Quality Assurance (EQA) designation, a seal of quality for post-secondary education in British Columbia. This new designation will give prospective university students better tools to make informed decisions about where they study and promote British Columbia as an education destination of choice.
"British Columbia enjoys a strong reputation internationally for providing quality post-secondary education," said Ruth Wittenberg, Assistant Deputy Minister of the post-secondary education division for Ministry of Advanced Education. "Having a seal of quality for British Columbia post-secondary institutions will further strengthen this reputation and allow both domestic and international students to easily see which institutions are recognized by government as meeting quality assurance standards."
The EQA designation is B.C.'s - and Canada's - first education brand or seal of quality. The EQA trademark will be used around the world to promote high-quality, reputable B.C. post-secondary institutions. It will be a standard trademark recognizable worldwide, and will reduce confusion caused by various quality assurance processes.
The BC Council for International Education (BCCIE), an independent society, will administer the EQA designation on behalf of the government. It will provide international marketing and promotion of EQA designated institutions and encourage joint programming and other partnerships between B.C. post-secondary institutions and those in other countries.
Kwantlen Polytechnic University brings with it a tradition of providing access pathways for students with different talents and abilities, and opportunities for all who are willing to work hard to realize their goals. Key to Kwantlen's new mandate is an enhanced capacity to integrate research and external community engagement within a learning environment that places students at the centre of all that the university does.
