GLOBAL BC'S Mark Madryga hosts community fundraiser with Kwantlen students

Metro Vancouver, BC – (February 8, 2012) – Kwantlen's Public Relations class of 2012 is hosting a fundraising event on Monday, February 27 at 6:30pm for the Richmond Society for Community Living. This garden party themed cocktail reception will be hosted by Global TV's Mark Madryga and will take place at Tapenade Bistro in Steveston. It will feature a silent auction, fine cuisine, and musical entertainment.

This event couldn't come at a better time. Until recently, funding shortfalls have left BC's community living sector scrambling to find financial assistance resulting in a devastating availability of programs and supports. Without organizations like RSCL, individuals and families will be left to fend for themselves without the means to do so.

Every year Kwantlen's PR grad class selects a non-profit organization for which to put together a special fundraising event. "The Public Relations students work very hard over a two-semester event management course to implement a successful event year after year," says Amelia Kennedy, faculty member, Kwantlen's Public Relations Diploma Program. "We are thrilled to be raising funds for such a worthy cause."

Richmond Society for Community living is committed to providing community based programs and supports for children and adults with developmental disabilities and their families. RSCL enables these individuals to participate and contribute fully and to be recognized and accepted as valued members in the community.

Kwantlen Polytechnic University has been serving the Metro Vancouver region for more than 30 years, and has opened doors to success for more than 250,000 people. Four campuses—Richmond, Surrey, Cloverdale and Langley—offer a comprehensive range of sought-after programs, including business, liberal arts and science, design, health, trades and technology, apprenticeships, horticulture, and academic and career advancement. Over 17,500 students annually have a choice from over 200 programs, including bachelor's degrees, associate degrees, diplomas, certificates and citations.
