Originally from Lebanon, Rabih Bobo holds a law degree, an international air transport association diploma, and a graduate diploma in conflict analysis and management. After moving to Canada from Abu Dhabi where he worked at the British Embassy for the last seven years, he realized his ultimate dream was to own his own business.
“I chose Kwantlen’s appliance servicing program because I saw a growing trend in retiring technicians,” says Bobo. “Learning a trade is a life changing experience - but most of all it is exciting, because when you are done studying the sky’s the limit.”
“Kwantlen’s appliance servicing program is a promising career choice,” says Tom Westgate, APPL instructor, Kwantlen Polytechnic University. “We have a variety of learners coming through our program, from fresh high school grads, mature students, to individuals new to Canada. The program is designed so anyone, regardless of background, is able to gain practical experience, and set themselves up for a career in appliance servicing.”
Kwantlen’s APPL program is the only full-time program in Canada that offers appliance servicing as a career. For the last 40 years graduate students continue to be successfully employed as technicians, owners, managers, and technical trainers in the appliance industry in BC, Canada & the United States. Graduates from the program are also working in commercial cooking servicing, vending machine repair, furnace and fireplace service sectors, as well as other "electromechanical" occupations.
Kwantlen Polytechnic University has been serving the Metro Vancouver region for 30 years, and has opened doors to success for more than 250,000 people. Four campuses—Richmond, Surrey, Cloverdale and Langley—offer a comprehensive range of sought-after programs, including business, liberal arts and science, design, health, trades and technology, apprenticeships, horticulture, and academic and career advancement.
