KPU Eagles Basketball swept by Camosun & VIU on the weekend at Eagles' Nest

Metro Vancouver, BC …The KPU Eagles fell to Camosun College Chargers and VIU Mariners in PACWEST regular season men’s and women’s basketball action this weekend at the Eagles’ Nest (Surrey, BC campus).

The women currently sit tied for 6th place with a 3-7 mark, with the Douglas College Royals.  KPU is only one game out of 4th place overall as Langara College and Capilano University sit tied for 4th place at 4-8. The top six teams earn a berth in the PACWEST post season tournament.  KPU fell on Friday night to Camosun College Chargers (7-3) by a score of 56-42 and Saturday to VIU Mariners (10-0), 67-44. 

Amber Lee Kavanagh, a second year forward from Langley, BC, led KPU with a 17 point weekend performance, including a team high 12 points against VIU.  Kavanagh also pulled down 15 rebounds and recorded 6 assists on the weekend.  Samantha McPhail, fourth year center, from Vancouver, BC led KPU with 10 points on Friday against Camosun.             

The Eagles men’s basketball team, falls to 1-9, two games behind the 6th place Camosun College Chargers (3-7), for the final PACWEST post season berth.  KPU fell 81-79 to Camosun on Friday night in a heart breaker, up by 11 points with three minutes remaining, Camosun would out score KPU 15-2 down the stretch to secure the road victory at the Eagles’ Nest.  On Saturday the tied for first place VIU Mariners (9-1) would defeated the home team Eagles 96-45. 

Devan Haynes, a fourth year center, from Chatelech, BC led KPU on the weekend with a two-day 26 point performance, including a team high 13 points against VIU.  On Friday night, Ali Bosir, a fifth year forward, from Surrey, BC led all Eagles with 14 points.  Bosir also recorded 19 rebounds and 6 assists on the weekend.            

Week of January 13th

The Eagles women’s basketball team have two critical games this weekend as they travel to Douglas College (Friday) and Langara College (Saturday), along with Capilano all four teams are in the mix for three post season berths.  The men’s team face one of the teams they are trying to catch on Friday night, when they tipoff against Douglas College (3-7), on Saturday they face one of the CCAA’s top programs in Langara College Falcons at 9-1.
