Metro Vancouver, BC …The KPU Eagles men’s and women’s basketball teams were defeated by Capilano University Blues and Quest University Kermodes at the Eagles’ Nest this weekend. The women feel 88-40, to Capilano on Friday and 66-57, to Quest on Saturday. The Eagles currently sit in 7th place with a 4-10 record. They trail Langara College (5-9) by one game for the final playoff spot with seven games remaining. The men fell 89-62, on Friday to Capilano and 96-64 to Quest, on Saturday. They currently sit tied for 7th place with CBC at 2-12. The women were led Shilpa Khanna, a rookie guard from Surrey, BC, with 24 point weekend, including games highs both nights of nine against Capilano and 15 versus Quest. Shilpa recorded eight steals over the weekend while logging over 30 minutes both nights on the court. Christina Brown, third year Langley guard, added 22 points over the weekend and recorded 5 steals. Amber-Lee Kavanagh, Langley, BC, led KPU with 14 total rebounds, seven per game. Ali Bosir, Surrey, BC, paced the men’s team with 28 points over the weekend, including a team high 20 against Capilano on Friday night. Obi Udevi, a rookie from Surrey, BC, added 26 points on the weekend. Bosir led all Eagles with 25 rebounds on the weekend. Week of January 27th The Eagles continue their basketball home stand welcoming VIU and Camosun to the Eagles’ Nest this coming weekend. Note Saturday is an afternoon matinee against Camosun. The men’s and women’s Badminton team resumes play this weekend.
The Eagles, currently ranked 9th in the CCAA top 15 national rankings, travel to Kamloops, BC to participate in PACWEST Tournament number three before hosting the 2014 PACWEST Provincial Championship at the Khas Badminton Centre, Richmond, BC, the weekend of February 15-16.
