Metro Vancouver, B.C. – Over 1,100 learners of all ages came out to KPU Surrey on Saturday to discover Canada’s leading polytechnic university, setting a new record as the largest attendance in the annual event’s history.
Students and parents from all over the lower mainland participated in activities that showcased what Kwantlen Polytechnic University’s programs, services, departments and clubs have to offer.
“It was such a pleasure to welcome all the visitors to our Surrey campus. Open house is our chance to share with the community everything KPU has to offer, from our excellent programs and innovative approach to hands-on education, to the learning and growth opportunities we offer outside of the classroom,” says KPU president and vice-chancellor Dr. Alan Davis.
Attendees had the opportunity to learn about KPU through hands-on activities, ranging in style from drumming circles and cedar weaving, to a welding simulator and flame blowing. The university students, faculty members and staff ran presentations promoting international education opportunities, how to negotiate in business from a win-win perspective and reaping the rewards of green careers.
“Cooper got his first real glimpse of a university and he left with a very positive attitude,” says Vince Eagle, who attended the open house with his son. “The buildings were bright and very clean and gave him a sense of professionalism. He could imagine himself having a future at such an establishment.”
“The event was fun, informative and allowed visitors to feel free to roam and interact with whomever they preferred. Organization was excellent; the people were friendly, informative, knowledgeable as well as approachable,” Eagle says. “I'm proud my eldest son graduated from KPU and would be equally proud if either, or both, of my twins should decide to attend.”
Adds Dr. Davis: “We take great pride in providing our students with the experiences they need to launch successful careers. We also remain enthusiastically committed to building relationships with the communities we serve, and providing them with qualified and engaged graduates. Our doors are always open to the community, and to those committed to learning.”
