Metro Vancouver…..The KPU Eagles women’s soccer team came to another scoreless draw with the Capilano University Blues at Newton Athletic Park in Surrey, BC today. The Eagles and the Blues met three times in the 2014-2015 PACWEST CCAA regular season, which resulted in two 0-0 ties from this weekend and KPU’s September 3rd home opener win 2-1.
The match was back-and-forth throughout both halves, and similar to yesterday's game both team's midfielders and defenders limited offensive opportunities on the pitch. In the second half KPU had two breakaway opportunities that went wide of the Capilano net and the Eagles' first-year goalkeeper Chantalle Bracken, Langley, BC earned her third-straight shut-out in her fourth start in net. The Eagles are unbeaten on home turf this season with two wins and three ties at Newton Athletic Park.
“We had a slow start in the first half and then had moments in the second half with a couple of breakaways, but we need to finish the job” stated KPU Eagles Assistant Coach Joan McEachern, “Our goalkeepers have been fantastic this weekend, as a team we have played better the past few weeks, but at the end of the day everyone needs to do their job out there. If everyone does their job we will be in great shape.”
The road to provincials is still a long one with four games left on the regular season schedule. The Eagles have not yet earned a berth to PACWEST provincials October 24-26th at Quest University, Squamish, BC, which will make the next two weekends very crucial. KPU sits in fourth place in the league at 14 points trailing third place Langara College Falcons (18 points), second place Douglas College Royals (22 points), and first place VIU Mariners (25 points).
KPU will go on the road Thanksgiving weekend to take on the Royals on Saturday, October 12th. Kick-off is at 12:00pm at Cunnings Field in Coquitlam, BC. On Sunday, October 12th the Eagles visit UBC Thunderbird Stadium in Vancouver, BC to take on the Falcons at 1:00pm.
