Careers in accounting: Connecting with students

Thu, Nov 13, 2014

Surrey, B.C. – On Friday, Nov. 14, Kwantlen Polytechnic University (KPU) will connect accounting students with industry professionals.

Hosted by the KPU School of Business and accounting faculty, in partnership with the student-run Accounting Society of Kwantlen, Co-op and Careers Services and the KPU Alumni Association, the Careers in Accounting event will see over 250 KPU students, faculty, professional accountants and representatives of the Chartered Professional Accountants of B.C. (CPA BC) participate in the event.

The opportunity gives students the chance to meet with local accountants working in a wide range of industries, many of whom are KPU alumni themselves.

“We want to provide our students with direct contact with local accountants in a pleasant setting. Talking about career opportunities in the classroom is different than having the students personally meet practicing accountants. Events like Careers in Accounting help students visualize what it is like to work as an accountant and make informed choices concerning future careers. The feedback from participants, at past career events, has always been amazing,” said Carol Stewart, co-chair of KPU’s accounting program.

Each year the highly popular event grows in esteem, connecting more local businesses and professionals with the next generation of professional accountants.
