Metro Vancouver.....The KPU Eagles are proud to announce their Sheraton Vancouver Guildford 'Athletes of the Week' for the week ending Sunday, November 23, 2014 as Christina Brown, Langley, BC, of women’s basketball and Nick Smith, Surrey, BC of men's basketball. The teams played back-to-back home games against the Camosun College Chargers and VIU Mariners in the final games before the holiday break.

Brown is a fourth-year guard whose personality, strength, and tenacity make her an exceptional role model for her team. A determined and steadfast athlete over two tough games, Brown logged a total of 74 minutes against Camosun and VIU, which is a statement to her endurance and resolve.

“Christina is an extremely loyal person, is extremely good at communication and is a natural leader,” stated head coach Dan Nayebzadeh, “Her consistency and ability to maintain her composure speaks volumes about her character. It doesn’t matter if she is having a good game or a challenging game, she competes hard and puts everything she has into it.”

Smith is recognized as the Eagles male ‘Athlete of the Week’ for a second-consecutive week, as he continues to show improvements in his game and unwavering dedication to his team as a first-year university athlete. A focused and selfless player, Smith has shown exceptional leadership beyond his years.

“Nick showed a lot of improvement offensively and defensively this week, and he is constantly striving to be better everyday as a player and a person,” noted head coach Vladimir Nikić, “He is our hardest working guy in practice, and in games he does anything and everything to make the team better.”

The KPU Eagles Department of Athletics & Recreation enters its 14th season of interuniversity competition. The Eagles are members of the PACWEST conference and play in the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) with 100 student-athletes participating on eight varsity teams in men’s and women’s basketball, soccer, badminton and golf. KPU athletics plays its home games at the Eagles’ Nest (Surrey Campus), Northview Golf & Country Club, Newton Athletic Park, all located in Surrey, BC and the Ace Badminton Centre in Richmond, BC.  The Eagles are active in the conference with staff members on various advisory committees and competing to host both provincial and national championships. The student-athletes are mainly from the lower mainland but KPU’s rosters have included student-athletes from North America, South America, Asia and Europe.
