Metro Vancouver, B.C. – Kwantlen Polytechnic University is pleased to announce that Dr. Stephanie Chu will join KPU as Vice Provost, Teaching and Learning on July 25, 2016.

“I’m very thrilled that Dr. Chu has joined KPU. She is a dynamic and collaborative innovator whose experience and knowledge will help us take that important next step to realizing the full potential of our teaching-intensive mandate,” said Dr. Salvador Ferreras, Provost and Vice President Academic at KPU.

“Dr. Chu will oversee the establishment of KPU’s first Teaching and Learning Plan and will lead our transformation to a vibrant, innovative and exciting teaching and learning centre to serve and inspire our remarkable faculty,” added Dr. Ferreras.

“I’m delighted to join KPU’s community and collaborate with others who are passionate about teaching and learning," Dr. Chu said. "The potential synergy of the extensive expertise, experiences and aspirations of KPU’s community members to further advance students’ learning and KPU’s signature as a polytechnic university is an exciting prospect. I look forward to future conversations and partnerships.”

Dr. Chu comes to KPU from Simon Fraser University, where she has served since 2010 as Director of the former Learning & Instructional Development Centre (LIDC), now called the Teaching & Learning Centre (TLC).

In that role, Dr. Chu established a new mandate for the TLC in alignment with the strategic and academic plans of the university, and in so doing demonstrated her leadership working with the university executive and community members to advance teaching and learning at SFU, while simultaneously addressing the interest, expertise and needs of faculty and programs.

Previously, Dr. Chu was Special Projects Advisor to the Associate Vice President, Academic responsible for project managing the Task Force on Teaching and Learning, and Program Director with the LIDC.

Dr. Chu has a PhD in Educational Psychology, is Adjunct Professor in the Faculty of Education at SFU and currently serves as co-chair of the BC Teaching and Learning Council (BCTLC) and Vice-Chair, Communications for the Educational Developers Caucus (EDC). She has been actively involved in educational development, and as a member and executive in regional, provincial and national educational organizations for two decades.
